Go through planner- Distribute "letters" + language work

Today the term planner for vt 2015 is finally ready.

You have  got a paper copy but the digital version is here on the blog on the right column.

As you can see I want to ratchet up the level of commitment and the degree of accountability on the Monday lessons..

Too many students are using this precious time sitting in the cafeteria instead of improving their knowledge of English.

Of course you can still use this time to complete assignments and work on literature or other aspects of the course BUT from now you have to DOCUMENT every week how you use this time.

THIS WILL BE COMPULSORY!!

IT IS OK TO USE THE COMMENT FUNCTION ON THE BLOG FOR THIS PURPOSE.

Back to today, we will distribute our final book today.
It is a modern piece of writing "Letters from the Inside" written by the Australian writer John Marsden.

I have chosen it for three reasons:

1. It is short and easy to read
2. It gives a very good introduction to Australian slang/English
3. It gives good opportunities to discuss themes such as reality, truth and identity

There will be three assignments based on the book. The first one is a language study and will be distributed in week 10.

By then you need to have read up to page 90 in "Letters"

Finally today I am going to distribute a brochure to get you going on your 9-9.50 assignments. Read and discuss the brochure in small groups.
- Which courses would you be interested in ?
-What would it be like to live in New York (+ and -) ?
- Are there similar institutions in Sweden? If so, which ones?

Feed-back on the "Comment" function of the blog please!

  1. 1. Musical Theatre and Film. Acting for film.
    2. It would be a new experience and an adventure meeting a new culture and country. The downside is to be away from family and friends.
    3. Something similar to New York Film Academy is Stockholm’s film scool.

We are interested in the acting, the documentary and the photography program. We discussed that to become a famous in one of these areas you have to have a special talent. But we also think that it’s for example easier to learn photography than acting. We discussed the pros and cons about living in New York. Our conclusion is it could be a stressful lifestyle living in New York since it’s highly populated. But it’s also a good city with a lot of possibilities.

Here we found some swedish schools that would fit our interests:

  3. Me,Jesper,Anders and James ( dropped in later) discussed musical theatre and film acting. It would be very hard for me and Anders to live in a big city because we hate people, Jespers reason to not like living in a big city is his lack of money. Yes surely in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö!

    1. See the positive side. In a big city you have loads more people to hate than in a small place. You can be really choosy

  4. Me, Vendela and Isabell have discussed about this school in New York and we want to learn more about the documentary programme, the musical theater and producing for film and tv programme. We would love to live in New York because it seems to be a great city but it would be rather expensive to live there and pay for education.
There are some schools in Sweden that have almost the same types of programmes, here is a link to one of them!
